Traveller One-shot Characters

Update: It’s fixed-ish! (Yes, the site is kinda broken. The last big WordPress update put it into a mode where it errors out more often than not, but a refresh will usually get it to load. I’ve tried a number of suggested fixes but nothing has worked. In the not too distant future I’ll be trying the “backup, delete, reinstall, restore from backup” method…)

I’ll be running a few one-(ish)-shots of the Mongoose Traveller 2nd Edition adventure “Flatlined” in the near future. As with my previous one-shots, to save time this will involve pre-rolled characters which players can log into on game day on a first-come, first-served basis. The characters available are listed below.

Part of the character creation process in Traveller involves establishing connections between characters, and from these connections players can decide on extra skills they’ve learned. In addition, campaigns are usually started with special skill “packs” available, related to the flavor of the campaign. These get distributed among the characters to help make sure no necessary skills are missing and everyone can be useful. For various reasons those mechanisms aren’t really relevant here, but the plan is that each player has two points they can invest in any skill or skills on the fly as needed, with the caveat that they’ll be asked to describe how they learned this skill.

Players: As usual, feel free to ignore the pictures and play these as any gender, sexuality, skin tone, etc. you want. (I’d say “ethnicity”, but today’s ethnicities are probably not relevant thousands of years in the future, hundreds of light years from Earth, in a culture that evolved for millennia before being influenced by us Terrans at all.)

Aarus Kadarin

A law enforcement agent who spent much of his career working a deep cover operation to infiltrate an organized crime ring that spanned multiple subsectors. Retired at the end of the op and got to keep his subdermal armor implants.

Hini Bibrinn

Having reached the rank of Commander in the Imperial Navy, Hini knows her way around most starship systems almost as well as she knows the way to the seediest bars at every starport.

Jiavriepr Echtovr (Jiavri)

A decent medic… but can he be trusted? He’s from the Imperium’s rival, the Zhodani Consulate, where people with psionic abilities are actually in positions of power! Is he up to something? Is he reading my mind? Is he making me move on to the next character before I ask too many dangerous questions?

Kevin from Accounting

I mean, sure, he’s an accountant. But he’s an accountant at a major robotics megacorp, and over the years he’s managed to tweak the budget to allow himself to attend some very specialized training usually reserved for the engineers.

Mazuun Akida

On his homeworld and its immediate neighbors, this actor/musician ruled both the holos and the music charts. But leaving home to seek super-stardom in a more populous region of the sector was disastrous! The market was crowded and without the right connections he struggled to find acceptance.

As an actor, Mazuun is the sort who throws himself into a role and tries to learn all he can about it. As a result, he’s ended up being trained in the basics of a number of different careers.

Riga Eleni

As soon as she was of adult age in her culture, Riga hired on with a Free Trader that would get her away from the backwater agrarian world of her birth. Ten years later she was helming a trading vessel herself – a much larger one, in fact, than she’d started on.

Unfortunately when the trading conglomerate that employed her fell under investigation for some questionable accounting practices, she became a convenient scapegoat and ended up spending a few years learning to survive in prison.

Uranduu Orsa

Uranduu has seen a lot of combat in his eight years as a Marine, having participated in boarding operations against large military vessels as well as smaller smuggler and pirate ships. His skills mostly revolve around hurting things before they hurt him.

Vruug

Vruug is a Vargr, a species created by an ancient star-spanning race from genetic material taken from Terran canines. She was born on a prison colony and put to work in the mines there at age 12… so no matter how bad things get for her now, she reminds herself that she’s still better off than how she started.

As a scout and later as a scavenging drifter, she’s learned the basics of a lot of different skills, from astrogation to fighting to hydroponics.
