Farrukh Bolsura, under a famous stage name, seemed to be on top of the world. Lead singer for one of the hottest rock bands of the 80s, famous for a vocal range that landed him duets with everyone from pop stars to opera singers – to the outside world, there seemed to be no stopping his runaway success. But he had a secret – a strange disease, newly discovered and not well understood, ravaged his body. He spent his entire fortune on a desperate attempt to find a cure, and the result was a one-of-a-kind serum which not only put the disease into remission – it enhanced his natural abilities by giving him sonic super-powers!
His elation at his own survival was lessened by the fact that attempts to duplicate the serum kept failing. Why did he deserve to be cured when so many other sufferers did not?
Finally, out of a desire to find some other way to help others in celebration of his own survival, he left his old life behind by faking his own death and becoming Mercury Man!
