Caustic and Jaggoleth

Caustic

Mary Coughlin didn’t inherit her father’s gift for sorcery, but instead turned out to be a gifted athlete who set multiple track-and-field records in college before she was booted out after a long series of criminal misdemeanors.  Her father, mortified by her behavior, summoned a homonculus named Jaggoleth to protect her and keep her out of trouble.

The joke was on him, though – Jagg was just as mischievous as she was, and often gave her advice on how to cause trouble and evade blame.  (He even taught her how to make exploding acid vials from his saliva!)  Now, with his help, she rebels against her father (and society) as Caustic.  Or Lady Caustic.  Or Miss Caustic.  Queen Caustic?  She hasn’t completely made up her mind yet.

Jaggoleth

Jaggoleth is Caustic’s sidekick and servant… or is she his?  He manifests himself in this world as merely a floating head… for now.  When defeated, he pops back into his own realm and waits to be re-summoned by using an artifact enchanted by Caustic’s father.

Caustic was a randomly-rolled character I needed to advance a plot line – she was going to be essentially a throw-away.  But when “companion” resulted from the die rolls for her powers and I realized there could be an interesting power dynamic between Mary and her sidekick, I decided to tie them in more closely to one of the main plot lines and turn them into recurring characters.

Jaggoleth’s name came from a random demon name generator I found online somewhere.  At the moment due to his physical limitations he’s just an ugly balloon the players’ characters pop every time they see him… but they shouldn’t get too used to him being weak…
