As a half-orc, V’nee has never really fit in with any society. He fled his home village as a child and nearly died of starvation and exposure before he was found by an elderly halfling ranger named Marric. In the few years they had together before Marric’s age caught up to him, he taught V’nee the basics of wilderness survival and helped to turn the young half-orc’s anger at the world into empathy for the downtrodden like himself.
After Marric’s death, V’nee began wandering the Sword Coast, venturing back into towns and cities for the first time in years. Grown now and stronger, but still naive in many ways, he allowed himself to be used by some unsavory people, mistaking their appreciation of his brawn and fierce appearance as actual respect. He ran for a while in Phandalin with the gang of thugs who would later call themselves the Redbrands, but he got out when he realized he realized he’d been duped into hurting people who didn’t deserve it in exchange for feigned acceptance.
He tries not to think too much about those days, but there’s a part of him that wouldn’t mind a chance to strike back at the Redbrands.
V’nee’s name might sound vaguely familiar. This being my players’ first D&D experience, I thought I’d create a helper NPC to travel with them. His criminal background gives him a smattering of stealth, lock-picking, etc. abilities that the party lacks.
I’m a little jealous of his stat rolls.
