Apparently I’m not the only person running a campaign set in Delaware. In a Facebook group about superhero RPGs I discovered someone whose heroes (in a different game) were running around in a fictional metropolis called Bay City. (Bay City is actually the name of a trailer park downstate that sits on a stretch of land in between the Rehoboth and Indian River bays… an area that was a childhood and teenage playground of mine.)
It’s becoming so common I might have to move my setting out of this area… maybe to someplace like New York or something, where nobody expects any superhero stories to originate…
But while I’m on a Delaware kick, allow me to plug some local shops:
Days of Knights in Newark is the gaming store I’ve been visiting on and off since I was about twelve years old… even during my non-gaming years, I made a point of stopping in while I was in the area just to bask in the fantasy/sci-fi goodness. I also did a book signing there back in 2005 or so.
Born to Game is a place in Dover I just recently found out about and haven’t yet visited, but hope to check out this weekend or next. Edit: Visited yesterday 9/15/2018; it’s actually pretty far south of Dover, but coming from the north if you take rt. 1 to get around the city traffic it’s not bad to reach & easy to find). The retail portion of the store is about half gaming supplies and half comics. In terms of RPG supplies their stock was limited – primarily D&D, a little bit of Pathfinder and something called Starfinder I wasn’t aware of before all on a shelf up front along with a few figurines, and lots of Warhammer stuff along the back wall. I have yet to dabble in card games (MagicTG, etc.) but there are a lot of items for those. What they did have in abundance was space for gaming – a big back room with multiple long tables. Apparently they have regular events and clubs who meet there; so if any of those things sound appealing and you’re in the area it might be worth a visit.
